Between the both of us, we have 6 years in LA. That’s a lot of time to explore and experience a lot of what LA has to discover. I would say that’s one of the reasons why we love sharing interesting places in LA! There’s so much to see and sooo many opportunities for a photo op. So we’ve curated a list of five places in LA that are great to visit to spice up your instagram. We did our best to find different places then you normally see on this lists so that you can hopefully get some new ideas. So lets get into it!
1. Spread Love Wings
We are all aware of the fact that wing pictures are instagram are SUPER cool! And we all know the classic Global Wings that can be found all over LA and the world! And while those are super cool, we wanted to find a different wing option to help you stand out amongst the crowd. We have driven past the wings at Washington and Vermont a million times, but finally we stopped for some photos! We were pleasantly surprised to find out the wings are connected to a coffee shop called With Love.
With Love is this incredible organization whose main principal is that all people, no matter race, gender, social status, etc, etc, are all equal! They also provide community programs to help people learn about eating healthy, child development, and more. So not only is this a great instagram opportunity, it’s a pretty cool place to visit too! Bonus points that there are two different wings on the same wall!

Our tip for this wall is to try taking the photos from different perspectives! The wings are so large, you’re going to have trouble fitting the whole thing into the photo, so try taking one with just the wing that says “love” on it. Or try taking it at an angle that runs along the wall for something a little bit different. Use your imagination to get the best shot possible!

2. Micheltorena Steps
This is probably the most “typical” instagram spot on our list! The Micheltorena Steps are hidden away inside a little cove right off of Sunset Blvd. The fun part about these steps is the way they look changes depending on the perspective you’re looking at them from. You can also get some photos in a few different places on the steps to switch it up. For example, you can take some by the heart on the stairs and some a little further up just on the colored steps. It’s all about switching it up to get the most out of your mini instagram photoshoot!

These stairs look especially cool when you’re shooting at an upward angle. You get the whole perspective of how huge and colorful the entire staircase is! It also looks great when you do your best to center everything perfectly. Our favorite photos were the ones where we were right in the middle of the staircase and the staircase was right in the middle of the photo. This instagram spot will look best when we optimize on symmetry!

3. Gallery Brown Wall
This was the first time we had ever visited the Gallery Brown wall. This wall was painted by a rad local artist named Retna and she paints this murals all over LA. Each is unique in the way the print is spaced, sized, and the prints color. There are tons of places you can visit to get a picture in front of her work (just google Retna Wall Mural). The one we visited is on the side of the Gallery Brown art gallery. It’s probably one of her most simple walls since it’s just a dark gray and white, but it’s for sure the most versatile for instagram themes!

This wall is a lot of fun to play around with. Try to get as much of the wall in it as possible. We tried our best to get super wide shots where you could get a full look at the awesome design on the wall. We also loved the shots where they were taking at an angle along the wall and the design faded into the background and got more blurry. It added so much dimension to the photo and made this already amazing print on the wall look ever more exciting!

4. Hotline Bling Hallway
This is one of our absolute favorites on this list! It’s so unique and we actually stumbled upon it the first time by pure accident! We were going to a jazz club that its that same strip mall and BAM, this amazing light up hallway was right in front of us. We absolutely had to take pics. Since then we’ve been back a few times and it gets better and better. It’s definitely a place to visit at night (duh, lights will look cooler in the dark) and honestly the later you go the less people will be there taking photos. You’ve just GOT to check this one out!

We’ve got a couple tips for this one. First, and most importantly, the later you go to this hallway, the better. If you go at the wrong time the hallway can be flooded with people and it’s hard to get the shot you want with a bunch of people in the background. If there are other people around, focus on photos that are just you against the wall. However, if you manage to find a time when no one else is in the hallway, the coolest photos are the ones where you can see the whole room. THATS what makes it look like the Hotline Bling room and will give you the coolest and most dimensional photos.

5. LACMA Levitated Mass
So everyone knows the typical LACMA photo ops… we’re obviously talking about the street lamps and the ramen noodles you can run through. While those are two super cool places to grab photos, we wanted to offer a slightly less known option. There’s another art instillation on the other side of LACMA from the lamps called Levitated Mass. Basically it looks like a giant boulder is floating over a hallway and you can walk right under it! It makes for super cool photos, especially if you catch it at the right time of day. You can even pretend to be holding it up superman style!

Our best tip for you is to go earlier in the day rather than in the afternoon. This is for a few reasons. First up, it’s pretty tough to get the shot you want with a bunch of people in the background and this spot can get pretty crowded in the afternoon. Also, the sun hits the exhibit straight on in the afternoon which creates a shadow under the rock (like in our photos). However, we’ve been there earlier in the day when there was no shadow at all and it definitely makes for the best photos at this location!
